This was an assignment for a computer graphics class I took my sophomore year. It involved taking the typical idea of a road sign and adding a humerous twist. This was one of my first experiences with Adobe Illustrator, it basically changed my life and now I can't live without it!

Imagination Figure Drawing

This was my final exam project for Anatomy drawing. We had to had to create a surrealistic picture created completely from our imagination and without visual aid. Our only requirements were that we had to incorperate human form into it.

Luba Lukova Interpretation

This was my final exam projet for Intro to the Graphic Profession. We had to create a poster that presented information about a graphic designer in the style of the designer. My designer was Luba Lukova. To represent Lukova's technique I used bold dark image and handwritten type.

This was also for photography and for this one we had to create a greeting card using an old black and white photo and adding color to the image. I used a picture that we've had in our house forever, and turned it into a get well soon card. I just thought he was adorable and so grumpy looking. Anyways i had fun with this one.

This assignment for graphic design was based on an art experiment done by Nancy Chunn. Everyday for a year she took the cover of the New York Times and Incorporated her own ideas about the articles by drawing on top of them and creating a visual representation of her reactions. We had to do the same to the cover of USA today and here is what I came up with. I'll admit it was more challenging than I thought, I had to be moderately respectfull about Anna Nicole Smith's death, which was actually pretty tricky. I had to make a couple political statements which I am not particularly comfortable with...anyway you get the point. This was overall a very interesting project.

Figure Drawings

For the past couple of weeks that I've been in Anatomy drawing all we have done is figure drawings. We started out with stick figures ( stick figures, I know right?) and then we started gradually making them more realistic. We usually only have a minute or so to get it done so I really had to work on being fast and acurate. Anyways hundreds of sketches later we have to pick one for a grade. I haven't decided yet but here are my top picks.

New Semester!

Ok so it's a new semester with new classes and lot's of new projects! This semester I'm taking Intro to Graphic design profession, anatomy drawing, and photography so hopefully i'll have more stuff to put up soon. Anyway the first project of the semester was in graphic
design. I had to construct a hat that represented my personality in some way. My design was inspired by a board-game spinner and I made it by forming a wire cage and covering it with felt and foam.. I chose this because I am playful and indecisive. There are some other cheesy metaphors that I may throw in there but for now here's my hat....I'm pretty proud of it :)

Getting out of the bowl

Ok....so for the final exam our assignment was to create a surreal piece and encorporate still life into it somehow. The concept seemed simple enough, do whatever you want and make it wierd but somewhat realistic, but honestly, I aggonized over how to accomplish the whole "getting out of the box thing". I don't know why it was so hard for me, and I'm still not really satisfied with a lot of the choices I made in this piece. On the up side I am officially done with art 103!

For this assignment the class spent an entire class day making one wall of the classroom a giant still life. We had to go around and pick and choose what we wanted to do. We also had to cut our own mat-board, which was...an experience. Anyways in the end I got the picture finished...about and hour before it was due. I'm beginning to learn the perils of procrastination.

Over our heads

For this assignment we had to draw a tricycle that was suspended from the ceiling. I guess to understand the whole point of this assignment it's best to elaborate a little. If there was anything I learned from this class, it is the importance of a good elipse. For our first assignment of the class we had to draw 1000 elipses free-hand. Needless to say Mr. Pitt is a little picky about his elipses. So naturally we all were scared to death of the wheels of the tricycle and the subsequent criticism from Mr. Pitt.

One of Mr. Pitt's rules is that we have to make an underlay for every piece of art we make. This is so that we can screw the underlay up as much as we want, and then trace it for the final copy. This way there aren't erasemarks and outlines. Great concept, but the whole "it's good for you" logic dosen't make it any more fun to do.

Getting some perspective.....

For this assignment we had to draw stacked wooden blocks. We had to recreate them exactly to scale and using perspective techniques. I learned a really important lesson from this assignment.....a great way to make the other students mad at you is to knock over the still life.....twice.

Shapes and Shading

This was one of the first assignments. For this one we had to draw each shape using a different shading technique. It came out ok, but unfortunately it got wrinkled in my dorm closet.
